A Very Long Day - Singapore Airport is the Best!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Hmmm, it is now February 28th, not sure when I lost the 27th . It was 7 hrs. to Frankfurt and then 11 here to Singapore. I have had quite a few meals - breakfast long before it was light and before we landed at Singapore airport at 6:45 am.
I didn't try wifi in Frankfurt because I never have had any luck with it. It was a continuous flight from JFK here to Singapore with only a 1-hour layover in Frankfort before we took back our seats. I was in the last row in front of the toilets. Hmmm. And I thought it was meals being prepared that smelled like that. Not so appetizing. The section to the rear of the toilets had lots of empty seats with people spread out with their blankets on them. The young man who shared my row and I had an empty seat too, but not so much extra room to spread out on.
We had a lunch and breakfast on the flight from Frankfurt to Singapore. The breakfast was huge - with a choice of chicken noodles or scrambly eggs. The eggs were kind of English breakfast style with mushrooms, a cherry tomato and some potato patties. Plus yogurt, fruit, and a roll. Enough of meals. I still need to eat my tangerine before landing in Australia. I am sure they are very strict with food stuffs.
I read a bit more of the Thornbirds, did some work on my Malta photos but didn't persist because I didn't want to use all my battery. I couldn't find a plug-in. It was probably there - the Singapore airplane was pretty high tech. There was a huge space allocated for first class and business - the seats were placed in square leatherette (maybe real - who knows) enclosures. They took up so much space it was difficult to walk past them with my daypack on. And there were rows and rows of them. I think the first class were the ones with the wide flat screens in front of each enclosure. Ah, well....
So here I am enjoying the Singapore airport while I wait for the gate for my flight to Melbourne to be posted. They only got as far as the 9:30 am flights and mine is 10:10. The bathrooms here are gorgeous - all shiny stainless steel and glass. One of the stalls has a sign identifying it as a child-friendly cubicle. The water and soap dispensers are automatic and all seem to work! Near the door as you exit there is a computer touch screen with little pictures so you can rate the bathroom - I gave it an excellent.
So now to decide how to spend my few hours here: on the computer?? I should walk around and get some exercise. So I will check my emails and sign off.
My original blog entry ended with the last paragraph and the next day started with my waking up at the Melbourne hotel, so I will just fill in by saying that I landed in Melbourne around dinner time. I was surprised that the flight took so long from Singapore to Melbourne but when I later looked at a map, I could see that Singapore is quite a bit northwest of Australia AND Australia is quite large. It is the sixth largest country in total area - the US is fourth.
I had booked a room in a budget hotel within walking distance from the airport. It was pretty basic and everything (wifi, food) cost extra. I remember going out into the lobby and asking about certain things and giving up. So I made myself as comfortable as I could and tried to catch up on some sleep before catching the plane to Hobart.
