Pack & Paddle Kayak and Snorkel Trip

Waikoloa, Hawaii, United States
We awoke in the dark to the iphone alarm at 6am! We drove down past our destination (due to GPS difficulty), and back again to arrive only 1 min late . After a few phone calls and some misunderstandings (that were surprisingly not our fault), we got a guide and wound our way down to the water destination. Our guide, Ola, got us into our kayak, and out we went. The first sighting was the spinner dolphins. These little dolphins were all around us! They were right by the boat, their fins cutting through the water, and some of the young ones even leaped out of the water! We paddled onward. Our next destination was a snorkel spot. There were lots of great fish and coral! We snorkeled until we were cold and our fingers started to prune. Back to the bay. A definite highlight were the 2 green sea turtles hanging out in the bay when we got back. They were so much fun. A guy nearby tipped us off that we could feed them the nearby leaves. They ate right from our hands!

On our way into Kona to find some some shops, we happened upon Annie's. I had seen it listed in the guidebooks and it smelled great as we drove past. A good find, for sure! We had a nice Ahi tuna sandwich with purple potato salad and amazing tempura onion rings, as well as some refreshing beverages. Back on the road to the shops, mom hit the Harley Davidson shop and then we found a nice strip of local shops. We made some purchases and ended the outing with a Kona coffee pie ice cream. Yum! Our last trip back to the room, we finally took one of the old fashioned wooden boat rides. We dumped off our baggage so that we could find the Buddha point that we'd been hearing about. Getting in everything we can before our check out tomorrow and journey to new accommodations. -kjk
