HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CANDAE!!
Our day began a bit earlier than 4 am because I woke up and asked Kara what time it was & it was about 10 minutes of 4 . We packed up our stuff and went downstairs to get a cab. The young man at the desk checked us out and told us that our breakfast was waiting at a table. When Kara asked him to call us a taxi, he said, why, because it would be there in 2 minutes and we would still be eating our breakfast. We hadn't expected much but they had set our a pot of coffee, glasses of OJ, yogurt, and 4 pieces of pound cake. I thought we were still on time and didn't realize that we didn't leave the hotel until after 4:30 am. Otherwise I would have been more anxious.
Our drive to the airport - which we were told takes about an hour - Kara remarked that she bet it would only take half an hour. Luckily the highway was pretty empty because our driver made it seem like he was at Le Mans and in the lead, as he sped past the other vehicles on the road. I hadn't looked at my flight info and so I told him we were flying with Lufthansa. He dropped us off at the last door of the international terminal when he ran out of airlines but we walked back until we got to Swiss Air, a United partner, for our flight to Zurich. We did manage to get through security without too much hassle. I did have to take my cameras out of my daypack at one of the airports. We went through passport control in Zurich but happily not another security control point. The long flight from Zurich to Washington Dulles was spent with Kara playing computer games on her i-phone while i read a mystery book. Kara bought me a treat at Starbuck's in Dulles while we waited for our flight to Albany. By 6:45, we had landed and were out in front of the terminal waiting for John who promptly arrived. I looked for John's gratitude for keeping Kara safe during our travels and he was duly grateful....although I am not entirely sure of which one of us actually did a better job of keeping us safe and out of trouble.
So, thank you to Kara for her company on our lovely trip to Greece!
