Relaxing Day - Northern St. Lucia

Cotton Bay Village Resort, Gros Islet, Saint Lucia
I let Marleen and Grace get up first.  :)  It must have been around 8 am.  I am not sure.  We had bought instant coffee or someone (Grace maybe) had brought a small pouch plus we had also bought some cereal so I had a good breakfast.
Today our first activity on St Lucia was to find the ocean.  We checked at the office for info and ended up with a young man leading us to the Cas-en-Bas beach.  First thing we saw - first we felt the strong wind and heard the waves - wee horses.  There is  a riding stable of sorts on the beach here.  Grace and I decided that it would be fun to do at some point.  We went through a beachside restaurant called Marjories's and checked it out, then saw some souvenirs on sale at the shop next door.  Grace saw a set of bags she liked in a lovely blue color, but when the girl went back to check, the price doubled although she could have gotten a steal for $30 US.  The local currency, Eastern Caribbean dollar, is about 37 cents to our dollar.  We then walked across the beach to a little peninsula where I waded in the surf for a little bit, Marleen sat on a rock and I took some photos of her with my phone.   We saw the horses come by and then we headed back to our villa.
I think we regrouped at this point and decided to do some planning for the rest of our stay and then we could head to Rodney Bay for an early dinner and some grocery shopping.  We have acquired a pet cat - whom I have named Lucy - and I think we spent most of the afternoon running to the refigerator to fill a teeny bowl with milk for her.  She is very skinny and somewhat damaged looking but otherwise quite an appealing addition to the household.  Oh, I forgot - we went for a swim in the pool right outside our back door patio.  It was quite nice - warm enough for me!  There were two couples from  Nova Scotia on the other side of the pool.  The women had a consulting job here at the agriculture college and their husbands had just come to vacation,  There was another man from Ontario Canada who was talking with them.  Otherwise, the place is almost empty.  As time went on, we learned that the resort had fallen on hard times, closed, was bought out and is currently being renovated and reopened.   One of our drivers told us that he and his wife honeymooned here in its earlier version when it was considered one of the nicest resorts - at least in this northern area.
Sometime after 4pm we got a taxi to drive us to Rodney Bay and drop us off at the grocery store - there is a chain of Massey stores.  One driver told us that this store would have the most American supply of food for us..  It had similar brands but not entirely.  We managed to get what we needed plus fiw more bottles of beer.  They are little - 250 liters.  Grace got wine in a 4-pack of plastic bottles.  We intended to walk the main street of Rodney Bay - there wasn't as much there as I would have thought - but quite a number of restaurants - Indian, Chinese, Italian - everything.  Kirkland our driver had recommended Spinnakers at Reduit Beach as a good seafood restaurant with a seaview.  While we walked there, we met an American couple who had been here 2 1/2 weeks and were just about to leave.  They were hoping we could recommend a new place for them.  We got to Spinnakers around 5 pm - time to take advantage of the "2 4 1" special on drinks.  We had some margritas and Marleen ordered a Spinnaker mojito that had the mint blended into the drink, which made it look like a kale smoothie.  I had a sip - it was good but I concentrated on the margarita.  We ordered a shrimp and vegetable appetizer and managed to get through the next hour before we ordered our dinners.  We shared coconut shri\mp - very good - fish and chips and Marleen ordered something else that came in a large bowl.  When we were done, we called Kirkland who picked us up and returned us to Cotton Bay Village.  We managed to stay up to around 10 pm.  I read a lttle bit before packing it in.
