This Cruise is named “ Flavors of the Northwest” and we have planned to enjoy it that way, as 5 of our 6 scheduled tours involve ‘flavors”
Tuesday Sept.
20. Getaway day.
Our pre-trip preparations were going just great; luggage out and already delivered to the cruise port, and all else in order. Then day before yesterday, we made a spontaneous decision to have our popcorn ceiling removed while away. Great idea, but it put us in a bit of a craze getting prepped for that as well as final prep for the trip. Also the process for getting our boarding passes was beyond tedious, only to finally find out that all of our documentation was downloaded and in order, but still we had to check in with an agent, I guess cause we were booked through to Canada. We had a delightful trip to the airport by who I’m sure will be the Senior Women’s Pickle-ball National Champion by the end of the year! At Savannah Airport, we went to get our boarding passes from the agent, but wait, in order to get in line to see an agent, one had to scan their boarding pass! Go figure! TSA-pre was great, and we spent an hour in the Amex Lounge, which is a lot nicer that just hanging by the gate. The flight from Savannah to Chicago was beautiful.
We had a scheduled 5 hour layover, and about 4 hours into it, a line of severe thunderstorms came through. They announced our incoming plane from Toronto had turned around due to the weather. At that point, we figured we were totally screwed, so ran to the agent and arranged to get on the next (and last) flight to Vancouver. Great decision, as a few hours later they officially canceled our original flight. However, the airport was closed for several hours and our rescheduled flight did eventually take off, turning a 5 hour layover, into a 7 1/2 hour layover. Regent did find us at, now 11:30pm, their time, and we arrived at our hotel around midnight. We were given a huge suite, and fell in bed by 12:45, or 3:45am our time. So we were traveling about 19-20 hours. I think we are too old for this. The “good” of the day was Robin, TSA, The customs agent, Regent and the Fairmont. The bad was documentation and O’Hare!
