Exploring Tsavo

Tsavo West National Park, Kenya
We get up early, as we always should but never do, and drive over to the Kilaguni lodge to see if we can observe the lions drinking at the water hole, but the guards tell us there are no lions.
We continue to Rhino valley, where there are several water holes, and amidst the hills of yellow grass with occasional acacia trees.
We see groups of animals taking turns drinking. A family of elephants, herds of Cape buffalo, a few giraffes, even some austriches come to the life sustaining water, to drink their fill. God created a wonderful world.
We spend much time there, and as usual we seem to be alone in the world. The sound of insects that enhances the silence of the afternoon, the yellow grass, the red earth, the dust... this is Africa.
Tired and satisfied we return to our camp, where I take a siesta in the tent. But it is a bit too hot.
Suddenly there is noise. A car enters 'our' camp. We will have company tonight.
In the evening we again go leopard watching, but again they don't show up.
I stay in the cabin with Gabriel and his friend, and by a flashlight we read a book about animals of Africa.
They read well, but follow the sentences by pointing with their finger at each word they read.
With each animal, there is a small white map of Africa, and countries where the animals occur are colored green.
I notice they do not know the countries; at some point I say: this animal does not live in Kenya. They agree, not in Kenya. I look at the map and point.
'It lives in Ghana, Togo and Benin.'
'Really? In Ghana, Togo and Benin?'
Gabriel is following aviation school. Next time we visit he can fly us over Tsavo.
We relax by a campfire, and listen to the jungle sounds. Very satisfied, we go to sleep.
By the way, if you get stung by a scorpion, rub onion on it.
And elephant poop is highly useful as local medicin, and when you burn it, it chases the mosquitoes.
