Kinderdijk and then on to Cologne, Germany

Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
We were up and at ‘em pretty early this morning. We were to assemble with our group to tour Kinderdijk at 8:30 this morning and we decided we had stayed up way too late last night than we should have in order to get our “poop in a pile” , be cleaned up, have breakfast, and be ready to roll by 8:30! The plan is to get to bed a little earlier tonight!
We had a fantastically good guide for our tour of the Kinderdijk windmills and dike. She was so vivacious and made you really want to listen and learn. Kinderdijk is most known for its 19 remarkably preserved 18th century windmills. It is located amid low lying “polders” which are tracts of land reclaimed from the sea by the power of windmills and enclosed by embankments or dikes.
This afternoon has been a beautiful one of cruising the Waal and Merweda Rivers on our way to Cologne, Germany. We have passed industrial areas, villages, many lovely homes, and campgrounds. Lots of church steeples in the distance. We had a life jacket safety drill after lunch…always a fun activity! It is now around 6:00 PM local time…time soon for our evening meal. Heaven forbid we miss any food!
We will dock in Cologne later on this evening. Tomorrow will be (I think!) a walking tour of the town. Stay tuned!

Finally my computer skills came in view and I enjoyed everything. Glad you made it to my "Heimatland" and hope you have a good time.

What a wonderful first stop. Like stepping back in time. And I like seeing people in shorts and t-shirts. So I could do a Viking cruise in comfort!

Thanks for including a pic of the Skadi, I was curious about the size. I'd like to see more of the inside too. The windmills are so much larger than I imagined!

I ‘m enjoying your trip. I have never seen the living quarters of the windmills very interesting.
