Hamburg City Tour

Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany
Forgot to mention how CLEAN AND TRASH FREE Germany is. Totally amazing. Truly, we have seen just one or two small pieces of trash on the ground since we have been in this country, and they looked embarrassed. Another amazing thing is how quickly we have gotten used to NOT seeing the trash. It will likely be culture shock when we get back home.
We sailed all night once again. We should arrive in Bamburg, Germany around 1:00 this afternoon, where we will have a walking tour and then time to explore on our own before sailing once again around 6:30. We are going through many, many locks. We said yesterday that the length of our river cruise is 700+ miles but we were told last night that the length is over 1,100! John got it direct from the Captain of the Skadi that the figure is over 1170 miles! Amazing! We didn’t realize we were making such a long ship. If we went beyond Budapest we would be in the Black Sea. This river/canal ties a lot of European countries together. It is definitely a major waterway. Go figure. It is beautiful riding through the countryside. Little kids like to wave at us from the shore which is so cute.
We had a good day today…weather warm (in the 80’s) but not as humid as yesterday. Our tour today was OK but not as good as the other ones we have had so far. Our guide was a cute 25 year old who apparently didn’t notice the preponderance of white hair in the crowd so he moved a little too fast, and really didn’t give us as much information as we had become used to getting. Also, although Bamburg was an interesting city with many, many houses built centuries ago, we didn’t think it was as pretty as Würzburg. Nonetheless, we had fun, got back to the Skadi around 6:00 and set off sailing to Nuremberg at 6:15! I think we will sail all night. They don’t fool around when it is time to pull anchor so to speak. They advise you that if you see the back of the ship as it heads away from you to be prepared for an expensive taxi ride…everyone so far has arrived back aboard on time!

Your great pictures showed a lot of beautiful architecture, so Bamburg looks like a great place to visit too. Wurzburg was totally amazing, so by comparison (and with the tour guide) Bamburg was not as amazing. I have a request. It seems like the only people in your pictures are on the tour. What do the German people wear in these towns? I am hopeful for the alpine couple look, like the picture I sent you before the cruise.
