Ride in Big Red Truck to Last Chance Mine

Monday, July 21, 2014
South Fork, Colorado, United States
This is more of "a picture is worth a thousand words" kind of day today so sit back and enjoy!

FYI Brently: the outside temperature was 58 when we woke up this morning ...and 61 inside Mufasa. Of course I thought of you...

We pulled out of camp this morning at 10:00 heading to our adventure in Creed. The drive up the Rio Grand Valley was spectacular as usual. The temperatures were in the 60's and was so very pleasant...LOVE this kind of weather.

When we got to Creed we stopped in town to walk around...and of course had to purchase the obligatory souvenirs! After our town crawl, we stopped at The Dog House for lunch. It advertises itself as the Best Little Dog House in Creed. Since I think it was the ONLY hot dog restaurant in town...

From Creed we drove up the Bachelors Loop Trail to the Last Chance Mine. All of us had been there before, but it is such a fun place to go to. I bought a really nifty rock and Laura bought one just like it...like Mother, like daughter I guess!

After leaving Last Chance Mine we finished the loop road back to Creed and then headed back to South Fork. Before getting back to camp we stopped to make reservations for a scenic train ride this coming Friday. Sheeba is disappointed that she won't be allowed on the train, but indicated that she was glad for the rest of us to be able to go!

Today was a great day...could not have been better. Tom drove us in The Big Red Truck 67 miles today...The Big Muf rested in camp!

PS...Once again I did NOT have a chocolate chip frappe...I did, however order at a coffee house what my dear son in law ordered, thinking I was just getting a fancy cup of coffee. It turned out to be a Mocha Expresso...I can assure you that I was not aware going into the experience that expresso is so...exhilarating!! I may not sleep for a week.

When you said South Fork, I thought of "JR Ewing". Wrong state.

Awwww we have camped up in that area many times when we lived in CO. The scenery is wonderful, and looks like you are having a great time. To me Creed always looked like it was stuck back in the 50's. Enjoy!

Thanks Linda. I just got an email from a friend in Chicago who gave me basically the same information. It was a fascinating little thing for sure. We thought it was a humming bird at first. It is great having smart friends!!

The Last Chance Mine was a silver mine, Linda.

That’s exactly how these addiction things progress. First iced sweet tea and then crack cocaine. Tom should not be encouraging his MIL to experiment with stronger stimulants especially at such high altitudes. Who knows what kind of a wild eyed zombie she will be when she gets back to DWLP.

You are enjoying my kind of weather. And scenery. So why am I in TN?
Your photos make me remember our western odyssey when the kids were 4 and 11. I loved it and now I am reliving it. Thanks. Your "kid" is a little older, but the feeling's the same. Savor every minute.

Your choice of upscale restaurants in Creed reminded me of our salmon burger when we were in Skagway together. Now that was fancy eating. Did you happen to see Skippy while in Creed? Many half hugs for you to share with Laura. Haven't seen her in forever.
