In and out at the IN-N-OUT!!

Ogden, Utah, United States
As a footnote to yesterday: I forgot to mention that though we hadn't realized it at the time, we got a fair amount of tar (tar should be a FOUR letter word!!) down the driver's side of poor Mufasa as we traversed the beautiful roads we enjoyed so much the past couple of days. This means that yesterday evening, while I was getting the blog out, John was patiently (???!!!) working his way down the side taking the tar OFF. Was our drive worth it? As far as I was concerned, yes...but I wasn't the one cleaning tar and thinking dire thoughts. After a good supper and a little rest, John was OK with the mess also I think. Having said that, I suspect he would have to wait for the memory to subside (sort of like child birth!) for a while before he would want to make a return trip on it! One of the joys of being RVers I guess!

Also we would like to give a shout out to Lora C's Mother . Today is her 94th birthday. Lora told us that her Mom was born two months premature weighing in at 4 pounds. She was so small that they fit her in a shoebox lined with cotton...her head was the size of a teacup and she had no eyelashes. At the time, Lora's grandparents lived in a railway boxcar. The miracle of this whole story is that her Mom not only lived, but gave birth to seven children! Since one of them was our Lora, I know that all of DWLP is blessed also. Happy Birthday Lora's Mom!

This morning was a VERY lazy one for us. We slept until 8:00 and did not pullout of camp until 11:00. Before leaving town we drove to a Post Office to mail a birthday card. This time we used an App on the phone to find one...Chickie apparently doesn't deal well with requests to find PO's! Messes her mind up it seems.

Our initial thought was that as we traveled northward towards Idaho was that we would drive the Interstates. After looking at a map, we decided to at least do most of today's drive on our favorite "black" roads ...the ones that are marked in black on most maps. By doing this, we passed through some very pretty farmland and drove through some neat little towns as we drove up the Cache Valley with big mountains on either side of us. I took a shot out of the window of a Morman Temple in Manti, Utah. As we came out of the valley into the foothills of the Wasatch Range, we could see huge mountains coming into view ahead of us. After a point in time, we crossed the Wasatch Range coming out into the Salt Lake Valley below Provo, Utah. By the way, at this point of our day...it is ALL John's fault...we stopped at a Mickey D's for (imagine!!) a Chocolate Chip Frappe! Will wonders never cease!!

We then continued up the valley towards Salt Lake City. We were there and took a good tour of Salt Lake a couple of years ago so that was not on our "to do" list this trip and we continued past and north of the city, stopping in Centerville, Utah for our one planned stop of the day...an In-N-Out Burger store! Oh joy, oh rapture! I know all of our California friends now have their mouth's watering! At Richie C's suggestion on our last trip out west we stopped and ate at a couple of them that were on our path, so we had it in mind today to stop and see if they were at good as we remembered ...they were! Apparently, at least this location and I suspect more of them, are absolutely jam packed almost no matter WHAT time you go in one. We arrived at 3:00 in the afternoon and almost couldn't find a place to park. We finally got situated, looked over in the drive through line and saw a policeman with his blue lights flashing getting out of his car to give a ticket to the one in front of him! Was that person in such a hurry to get an In-N-Out burger that he broke the sound barrier getting into the take out line? Only the Shadow knows I guess!

Going inside was a whole new cultural experience also. The place was packed and had LONG lines waiting to place orders. There were no seats available when we got in line but as soon as I saw a couple of stools next to one of the windows free up, I sat down and guarded them with my life! We both enjoyed our hamburgers but I think I got the biggest charge out of all the hoopla. Hopefully we will be able to eat at another one before this trip is over . By the way, they are hiring and starting pay is $10:50/hour! I think we should lobby someone and get the first In-N-Out Burger in Tennessee in Providence Shopping Center!!

Before leaving Centerville, we stopped for fuel. We paid $3.75/gal and got 10.3 MPG. We also make a Wally World stop for a few supplies before heading north to Ogden, Utah and our stop for the night at 5:30. We are staying at The Century RV Park just off the Interstate and we were surprised to find that this is a stop we made on our way back on our last trip out west just after John bunged up his knee in Idaho. It is a nice park, level, great electric, and as usual the WIFI has yet to be challenged!

We drove 186 miles today. Our weather has been perfect and we have had a relaxing day. Not so many great shots and no video but we have very much enjoyed our day. Hope you have too.

The Wasatch isn't as pretty as Monument Valley. Could you turn around and do a "re-run" please, lol...Still enjoyed the trip today, liked those "gnarly" rock formations...
I don't think In-N-Out does Tennessee quite yet, darn, they look pretty tasty :-)
Thanks again for the great photos, Happy trails... see you tomorrow :-)

I can just see the Big Kahuna patiently (ha) wiping tar off poor dirty Muf. But you know the scenery was worth it. Your pictures continue to be lovely and I'm so glad you are having a great trip. We have finished Day One of the Atlanta event and will be here until Sunday AM then a quickie trip to FL to finish up the move. It has been great to see many friends here at the conference.

We still continue to enjoy reading your blog each evening. I just got done mowing the yard...it was pretty tall, so I had to go slow. This is the first chance Tom and I have been able to mow due to the rain. It looks sooo much better now. Keep being safe! Love you! =)
