Sneaking up on Glacier National Park...

West Glacier, Montana, United States
We heard from Baron Von Heinbuch and his lovely lady, Reneeagade first thing this morning and discovered that they have made their annual trek to Maine. He shared the view from their condo...all I can say is that our Renee will be painting her heart out! Thanks for getting in touch.

Another very smoggy, hazy day greeted us as we pulled out of camp at 9:20 this morning . A short distance from camp we stopped for fuel...$3.62/ gal and we got (sad news here) a fraction less than 9 MPG on this tank. All the in town driving that we did yesterday we guess. Since it wasn't too far to West Glacier, we decided to take our time as our reservation time to get into camp would not be until later on.

As we were stopping in Columbia Falls at 11:00 to mail a B/D card, I spied a self car wash. Therefore, after mailing the card we turned around and went back up the street to at least try to get some of the road film off of poor Mufasa. It was bad enough it was even bothering me, so you know it was well past time to do this. John was able to do a fairly quick power rinse and get off a good amount of the dirt. Muf looks SO much better, and everyone knows that a clean vehicle drives better than a dirty one!

Continuing on up the road towards West Glacier, MT, we made another stop in Hungry Horse, MT at 12:00 to do laundry . The laundromat that we found was not the greatest we have ever used (Lora, you would not have used it!!) but it got the job done, for which we were thankful. After we finished with the clothes it was lunch time so we went back down the street a block or so to eat at The Huckleberry Patch. Ol Grizzley, we had a pulled pork sandwich with huckleberry barbecue sauce (delicious) and we split a small slice of (what else) huckleberry pie with a small scoop of huckleberry ice cream! We thought about you since you had encouraged us on another trip out west to have some huckleberry pie and it was out of season at the time we were there. I guess you could say we "took one for Ol Grizzley"! You and Miss Drema would have enjoyed this stop!

We pulled into West Glacier KOA at 2:45 with a temperature of 90 degrees. This is a very nice park...may be the prettiest KOA we have ever been in. There are hanging flower baskets all over the place...saw some begonias with HUGE double heads on them! There is a dining hall restaurant here on property where they serve breakfast and dinner every day . The lots are nice and large with mowed grass around each site. Some of the more expensive sites have concrete patios but all have very neat fire pits with benches to sit on around them and also a picnic table. The views from all around the campground are first class. These mountains sure make our "hometown" mountains in East Tennessee look mighty small!

As per usual with KOA's, the electricity is a little low, and we did have to use one block to level, and probably the WIFI isn't strong enough BUT I have my trusty hot spot and it looks good to go, so I shouldn't have any trouble getting this post out. We plan to spend the rest of the afternoon lazing around here in the campground so this should be an early blog post for you. Tomorrow morning we have reservations for the Red Bus half day tour starting at 10:30 and therefore we won't have to be in a big rush to get moving. We have reservations here for tomorrow night also with an option for Friday night. We are not sure we will stay Friday night as we are still pondering our next move. We are thinking we may go to Banff, British Columbia, Canada but not sure of that as of yet.

We drove a hugely monumental amount of miles today...39!!

Great looking KOA! Beautiful mountains too. Banf sounds like a great destination! Now I know for sure I should have signed on as your photographer, lol. With only driving less than 40 miles I wouldn't worry too much about your mileage being a little less than 10mpg, lol. You'll make it up on the next long downhill stretch....
Happy trails and great pictures again by the way....

You know Dave, you can be struck by lightening for telling untruths! You are exactly right...we needed YOU for the photography! Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Yes, Yes, Yes Loved all the video's and pictures. The Hamburgers were probably great but I don't know if I ever would have stopped but I love that you guys do. I also would have loved the huckleberry pie and Ice Cream you really outdid yourselves these past couple of days with good local food. Yes I would not have like the laundry mat. I think if I didn't get too sweaty I would just where all my clothes for 2 days not the undies and create less laundry. I think I would waste too much time trying to find a laundry everyday. I think I would need to chill out and let it accumulate but I might need to take a prozac pill to do that. Love it when you mention me in the blog makes me feel special. I do like all the foodie stuff because their is never a dessert that I didn't like. Ice cream, cakes, pies, cookies, coffee cakes, donuts. I have had a million but plan on walking the rest of life to have more. My mother's favorite food is dessert and would be just as happy to have dessert all day long. Good thing she fed us so much other good stuff too. God bless her. Keep the food stuff in your blog I just love it. I love you both safe travels.

Pat teach me how to load my picture on this blog. Do I have to be a travelPod member and sign in and edit to add my photo. I have been adding photos in my I phone so that when someone calls my phone their picture comes up on the screen. When you get home I want to for sure get your picture on my phone. After all you both are in my favorites list.

Yes Lora, you have to have an account with TravelPod to have your picture come up when you post. It is free and you don't have to be writing a blog to get an account. Having said that...it sure would be fun to keep up with you and David as you travel!! You can pick a cute name for your account if you like.

Your pictures are great despite the haze, I know that is frustrating for you. Enjoy those 90 degree days in Montana as, believe me as someone who lived there, they don't last long, ha!
I meant to say on your picture yesterday about "rattlesnake warning" that we used to see those signs all the time when we lived in Montana and it always gave me the creeps. Just yesterday a friend of ours in Montana was out walking her dog and she got bit by one. She is in the hospital and so far has been given 24 vials of anti-venom. They would not have to waste that on me as I would die of a heart attack the minute it happened!!

The B.K. looks industrious washing off your Muf....hopefully the back is doing well. Enjoy Big Sky Country and get out of there before it starts snowing - probably in about two weeks, ha!

Right now we are seriously considering heading towards Banff starting on Friday. Not for sure yet, but when you look at the map, it REALLY isn't that far...just a couple of inches...really...

We second the "Go for it!" vote. It's so gorgeous in the Canadian Rockies. One of our favorite areas!

Do not forget to call your credit card company before you cross to Canada! We had major rejection when we did not and even after we called. That is how you get Canadian money in a hurry!
Truck on.

Do you have your passport to go into Canada? That is where I used to go. Have you ever been there? I can't remember. I have only seen it during the skiing season. One of my favorite places. Tom and I are going to the lake today to go camping before we start school next Thursday. Tom has been working at the church for our community outreach called "Impact". I have had classes Tues.-Thurs. but did get a chance to work at the church fixing backpacks for needy kids to receive on Saturday. Always an enjoyable time. So we will be out of the wifi area until Sunday afternoon. Love you. Continue to be safe.
