Well it's been a long flight but I have finally made it. Cancun airport is about what I expected so I made it through ok. Then I had to negotiate the taxi mafia. They were all quoting $57us to my hotel. I negotiated one down to $50 and he said it was a long way away from everything. Everyone said it was 45 min to get there but surprisingly my driver made it in 25min. That is like Perth prices.
You know you are in trouble when ya taxi driver says it is in th nmiddle of nowhere and questions why here? They usually want you to change to their friends hotel that is better but this guy didn't offer alternative just didn't know why here? The hotel is in fact a "love hotel" you can hire a room for 3 hours, 8 hour or over nite. I didn't get a key for my room and still can't get one this morning. The A/C is on full and I can't turn it off and there is 3 porn channels on the to. Errr so I'm told. Otherwise it is a big room with hot shower and clean enough so it will do cos I'm out of here tomorrow to Chichen Itza.
its been a long day but I have been uptown and found the bus station for tomorrow morning. I wanted to change money but I am soo far from the tourist trail there are no money changers and I can't read the ATMs. I did find a bank and changed some money there. They gave me a great exchange rate of 17.55 so that was a good score and now I have pesos to burn
back at the hotel I still can't get a key but I suppose it is not much less secure than most places I stay in.
it has been a tough start being off the tourist route, it get easier as you go , but I'm still lovin it.
