We set of not too early this morn, to walk up to the highway. It is about 10min walk. A bus came along almost straight away and I said "San Salvador" driver said "Si" so we jumped on. Now I really thought we were going to the airport but sure enough we ended up in San Salvador. I let Yumi deal with the taxi mafia and she had a price of $7 to go to the hotel we found on line. I then said to the driver $5 and he said no so we were gonna walk. He agreed, luckily, cos I have no idea where we are.
The hotel is a little run down but I like it . I have TV, AC, hot water, private bathroom and wifi. What more could I want?
I wanted to head down town to have a look around and get bus ticket for tomorrow. We dropped our stuff and headed out straight away. I asked the old lady who owns the hotel for directions and where to get bus tickets and even though it took a awhile for us to understand each other she was really helpful. Yumi speaks pretty good Spanish so that helped but her English is not soo good.
We walked according to my map, if I was reading it right? I knew we had to head down hill and roughly to our left a bit so we just followed the main streets down hill. Surprise, on the way I saw a King Tour bus backing into a terminal. That is the bus we need tomorrow. I walked up the street but the guard with the shotty wouldn't let me in. He was pointing to a big building behind and saying "office" I spied the ticket office but Gomer still wouldn't let us in. We had to go back down the street turn left and walk straight in. The people there were pretty helpful but they don't go to Copan Ruinas . We gotta go to Santa Rosa de Copan then change, or overnight there, then to Copan.
That done we headed for down town. I wasn't sure all the way there but we did make it and the church is one of the biggest I have ever seen. What shocked me was the mercado on the way. The whole downtown area is a shambles of market stalls. Now I like a market as much as the next man but really, you can't get into the real stores. It is an absolute disgrace. All those stalls and I couldn't find a classic T shirt.
I went up to the supermarket this arvo cos my bag stinks. I was looking for something to put in it to get rid of the smell. I washed some shirts the other day and the water smells like sewerage. That and a combination of carrying it around when it is hot and sweaty has made it go a bit feral. Anyway the super mercado is huge and everywhere you look they had women with samples. There was cheese, dips, sausages and heaps more cheese and bickies. I was full by the time I left and still nothing to put in my bag.
Early start tomorrow and maybe a long day.
