I wok up early this morn and was afraid to go back to sleep cos it was early bus
. Yumi set her alarm, smart arse. We caught a taxi to the bus station and checked in just after 6. I was hungry so I went next door to get breakfast. I had a big plate of scrambled eggs, bottle of orange juice and bottle of water for $2. El Salvador was soo cheap for food and drink.
The bus here was a Pullman bus, first class so expensive, but you don't have much choice when you crossing the border. It's that or shuttle. The King Quality buss was first class. We had a trolley dolley and she served drinks and a meal and gave us a pillow and blanket. The border crossing was really easy and so here I am.
We were put out at Santa Rosa, where we were going to stay the night. I tried to change money at the bank but they wouldn't let me in. We were walking along the street looking for money change or a hotel when I saw all the chicken busses lined up. I thought we could give it a try. I asked around and found a bus going to Copan so we jumped at it and we are here.
We cgould have taken shuttle from El Tunco yesterday for $45 for the 6hr trip
. What we did was chicken bus to San Sralvador, Pullman across the border then chicken bus again for $1.50, $45 and $4, plus the night in San Salvador. Hummm, was it worth it? I don't know but it was a bit of fun, and I didn't have to spend 6hr confined in a shuttle.
I went to bed early last night so I was up early this morning. I did some washing and was ready to go but had to wait for Yumi. We set of for the ruins at about 8.30 and stopped for breakfast on the way. I found a place in town that does real iced coffee. The ruins are walking distance from town and when we went in I could hear the macaws. It turns out they feed them in the park here so you can see them up nice and close. I went crazy takin pics and wanted one of them in flight but my camera wouldn't fire off quick enough. I will get some more pics this arvo.,The ruins themselves are not as dramatic as Chichen Itza or Tikal but the setting and the size of them, I think makes these the best I have been to. You can get up very close and personal with the stuff here, you can even climb most of it
. The setting is more natural jungle, the huge trees were amazing and they have macaws, they were sacred to the Myans. I was walking around looking at the big trees with soo much going on in them, and looking for the macaws I got lost. I think I saw all the site but I am not sure what order I saw it.
I dropped Yumi off at the shuttle station on the way home, she is off to GC for a flight home and I am where I like to be, on my own again.
I was going to the bird park this arvo but I am going zip lining in the morning and that includes the bird park so that will all be tomorrow. Now I gotta find something to do this arvo. I might try to work out transport to Lago de Yojoa?
Today has been massive. I went zip lining this morning. Now normally I don't do heights but this didn't bother me in the slightest. The course is 4km long and the longest span is 1km from ridge to ridge, across a valley. It turned out to be really great fun. To get there they picked me up in a boonger ute and it took 1/2hr to get there, all up hill
. The last couple of spans are quite fast and some of them bet a bounce up, they call it bungying. For some reason it was very tiring? Really you just sit there but half way down I needed a break. One of the boys had my camera so between here and the bird park I now have 162 images and videos to reduce to something manageable.
After zip lining I went to Macaw Mountain. They rehabilitate birds from the illegal pet trade and breed them to re introduce them back into the wild. All the birds in the ruins park came from here and they have more going there soon. They also have some green macaws going out soon to their native habitat on the mosquito coast. They have an interactive section where I made a video for Noah. I took my iPad, intending to make a video with the birds in the background but it worked out better than I expected.
Tomorrow I will be out of her early cos I am going to try to get the bus to Santa Rosa, then to Gracias. Then hopefully in a couple of days from there to Lago de Yojoa. If it works out it means I don't have to go through San Pedro Sula. If it doesn't I will go up to SPS and come back again.
