I flew here. To get here is a 1 1/2hr flight or 2 days by bus and boat each way. I arrived at the airport to buy ticket and the lunch time flight was full, so I gotta wait for the 2.30 flight. We stopped at Bluefields on the way but only for about 15 min. At Corn Island we taxi to the fire extinguisher and stop? It wasn't the smallest plane I have travelled on but close.
i had looked on the net to find a place to stay and I am here at Sunrise Hotel
. At first I walked to the left and I was pissed off cos there are no shops? I came back the other way and found a great bar about 5min down the road. They sell water and beer at the same price, 30 cordodas, guess what I am drinking?
I agonised all night on what to do about this hotel. I can't fault the hotel, it has everything you could want, but I hate the location. There is nothing of any interest here. The closest place I can find to buy water is the bar way down the road. They sell water for the same price as beer so I am cleaning my teeth with beer. I was thinking of going to Little Corn Island but that not a good idea. This morning I booked the taxi driver from yesterday, Pedro, to take me on a tour to see if there was anything close to here. Along the way we went to Brig Bay and I got him to stop at the hotel I was going to stay at, but was full. I went in and asked and they have a room for the next couple of days so I booked it and I will be moving tomorrow morning
. Wait till you see it, it is great. Brig Bay seems to be a great area, they have beaches and shops and people everywhere. There is way more to see and do. I am really looking forward to changing. While we were out I got some pics of the place, mostly around the Brig Bay Area.
I moved hotel this morning. The new one is great, I can go snorkelling right off me balcony. The only problem is we have no internet and not all the light work cos they are doing some work around the island.
Big Corn Island is a Creole island. They speak creole or English or both. They seem to go lobster fishing in the morning and sit around drinking all arvo? Lobster fishing is the biggest industry on the island. They live in shacks, and have no running water, usually the girls have to chuck a bucket down the well and drag it back up. They all have cable TV.
The new hotel, Mimundo, is great for day time stuff but food is further away. I can snorkel on the reef just outside my balcony so there is more to do in the day. I suppose it is swings and roundabouts? Last full day tomorrow then back to the work of travelling
.
Well you can only go snorkelling soo much. After a while it get to be the same, same. This morning a huge storm blew in at about 5 and dumped heaps of rain. It looks like it is going to be wet for most of the day. I can't believe how the ocean can go from crystal clear to murky overnight. There is no snorkelling today. So what to do? On an island that has nothing to do. I have come to realise there is no 'good' location here. The hotel I am in is in a stunning setting but the location is about the same as the last one. There is NO good location, everything is soo spread out. It is about 20km around the island and I have walked the whole way around, lots of it every day. They quote prices here in dollars cos if they say it in cordobas we would probably walk away. It has been good here, but 2 days would have been more than enough, and that would be hard to justify the airfare for 2 days.
I read Nicaragua is one of the cheapest countries in Central America. Well so far for me it has been the opposite. In 4 days here I spent about the same as I did in 10 days in Guatamala, and it is sooo not worth it.
I can't wait for the plane tomorrow
I will fill in more tomorra.

Why did you choose to fly all the way east to Corn Is and will then be going west to Granada? It looked closer to where you were the other day.

Ngaere, this is a little side trip. I will go back and continue down the Pacific side for a while then coming back to Caribe side for Costa Rica. That could be a little challenging cos I going to have to do some by boat.

Are you going to buy a $10 house? Looks like a real bargain. Nice place to retire to.
