Port Vila, Shefa Province, Vanuatu
Mmmm where do I start? Hate is a very strong word so I don't really want to use it just now.  I will leave it there for now.
The weather has been cold. I thought I was coming to a tropical island? Maybe it is me that is wrong? It is not tropical it is sub tropical. The first 10 days I woke up early cos I was soo cold. I had clothes and towels spread over the bed to try to keep warm. It has been like Melbourne weather here, four seasons in one day. When the sun is out it is nice and warm but it has been overcast a lot of the time.
A big surprise for me is the temperature of the ocean. I expected bath warm ocean like Bali and Thailand. Is is far from it. It is nearly as cold as home. That really surprised me and I don't like it.
On the tour I did yesterday everyone said "there is not much to see and do in Vanuatu is there?" I agree there isn't much at all and in Port Vila there is nothing to do. Luckily you can get a bus to better places for the day. Every tourist I have met have made the comment, "Vanuatu is soo expensive isn't it?" I agree entirely. They charge Australian prices.
The Ni-van, locals, are the nicest, friendliest and happiest race of people I have ever met. When I was soo sick on the boat the other day a couple of old bloke kept checking on me and a young guy mad a couple of phone calls to try to get me a flight from Epi. That has been typical of all my interactions with the locals
On my list of places I want to go back to, or would recommend, Vanuatu was in the bottom five. I think the ferry ride the other day has pushed it all the way to the bottom of the list.
Definitely my 2 days on Uri island was the highlight for me. The locals were also a highlight, it has been fun with them.
Maybe it is just my expectations that were wrong. I'm happy to be leaving today and can't wait to get to Fiji. I am definitely not sorry I came it sure beats the hell out of work.
