Dürnstein, Lower Austria, Austria
Leaving Vienna late last night by the time we finished breakfast, we were docking in Durnstein, Austria. This small town along the Danube has but one main street with quaint houses, gift shops, a monastery, and colorful cemetery. Durnstein lies is the Wachau Valley, a fertile area covered in vineyards and known for its wine.

We wandered the street visiting the cemetery and gift shops . At the monastery we were treated to an organ concert in the church, which was quite ornate. After the concert we made our way back down the street to the Klosterkeller for wine tasting. The stop at Durnstein was a short one but very pleasant. High above Durnstein sits the ruins of a castle in which at one time Richard the Lion Hearted was imprisoned.

After returning to the boat we indulged in a Bavarian lunch complete with Bratwurst and beer. Following lunch we headed to the sun deck to enjoy the castles, towns and churches that line the Wachau Valley. The only hitch to the day was the rain that fell for about the first hour of our trip through the valley, but shortly after, the rain stopped the sun returned.

Tomorrow will see us traveling into the Czech Republic.
