With a super storm churning toward Maryland, we thought it might be best to get back home to secure the house. With this in mind, we changed our ticket to Sunday evening making this what we thought would be our last full day in Las Vegas. Now we had to fit all of our planned activities into one day.
First on the agenda was Red Rock Canyon
. This area is almost a suburb of Las Vegas with rocky vistas and numerous, well used hiking trails. As we drove the scenic drive through the park, we encountered crowded parking areas as the hiking trails were dotted with people of all ages. The red rocks obviously give the area its name.
On our way back to the city, we passed by the Silverton Casino with its huge aquarium complete with sting rays which are fed by a diver several times a day. We arrived just before the early afternoon feeding and enjoyed watching the ghost looking critters gobble the tidbits handed to them by the diver. They looked like they were smiling.
Traveling back toward the motel we passed the famous "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign and stopped for quick photos. After getting ready for our evening out, we stopped back at the Bellagio to enjoy the botanical gardens which are themed for the season and are free to wander through. Also the Bellagio has a beautiful glass flower ceiling in its lobby
. Because the Bellagio offers a number of free attractions for visitors, I decided it would be here that I spent my money in the slot machines. I fed 5dollars into the machine and before it was gone, I had won a "minor" jackpot of $47+. Oh, by the way, I was playing a penny machine. So I gladly cashed out and moved on. Fred, who said he would not play, also won a couple of dollars.
Moving on from the Bellagio, our next stop was the Mirage where we would be enjoying the Terry Fator show. Since we needed to eat dinner, we ate at the BB King's Blues Club. Then on to the highlight of the day, Terry Fator.
The show was wonderful. Terry Fator is very talented and put on a funny and skillful show. Definitely a highlight of the trip. Our final stop for the day was out in front of the Mirage to watch the Mirage's volcano erupt.
What a long and fun filled day. Tomorrow we will stop at the Flamingo to see the birds that reside in their nature habitat and then, hopefully, head for home.
