On the Way Home, Finally

Jarrettsville, Maryland, United States
After 12 days, 2827 miles on the rental car, 4 states, 5 national parks, and 5 different airline flights scheduled for home, we finally boarded our Southwest plane to fly home. With the news that Sandy was finally leaving the area and that BWI was open for business, we checked out of the motel and returned the rental car in anticipation of getting home. When we arrived at the airport we found that we were two of many who had had to extend their time in Vegas due to the visit of Sandy on the east coast.

Since our rental car had to be returned by noon and our flight was not until 5:15 pm we had plenty of time to chat with the others traveling on our same flight .

Although leaving a half hour late we did finally begin our journey home with the nicest sunset of the trip gracing our departure. We passed by Las Vegas as we left, flew over Lake Mead and into the darkness.

Four and a half hours later we landed in Baltimore, made our way to our car and drove home arriving there at 3 am.

We saw a lot of beautiful scenery, weather from temperatures in the 80's to snow, and all kinds of interesting individuals. Our total take from the casinos was about $137 with a total of about $15 played into the machines along with $10 of free money. The best play was $1 in a penny machine, one spin and a win of $22. Good return on that dollar.
