What a difference a day makes! We headed off for a day trip to Lake Louise with showers predicted... That turned into constant rain...and just before we reached the lake, it started to snow.
We were directed to a carpark which turned out to be quite close to the Fairmont Hotel. This was great as we had passed some huge carparks way back along the highway which required a shuttle bus to complete the journey. The funny thing was that I had no idea which way to walk to the lake as the visibility was so poor with the falling snow. I had to ask a parking attendant for directions. He thought I was mad because we were nearly there!
We spent a fair bit of time strolling around the lake. Even though the view was limited, it felt very magical to us as the snow continued to flutter down. Someone had even made a small snowman. Eventually, we decided it was time for lunch and we found our way to the public cafeteria at the Fairmont.
After lunch, we drove to Moraine Lake which was also beautiful in the snow. Later, we found out how much we couldn't see because of the visibility but for now, it didn't matter.
We headed back to Banff and drove around the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Parking was impossible so we kept going and stopped for a while at the nearby Bow Falls.
