Hey Hey and a Big G'Day toya,
 
Smoke, fire, fire extinguishers, fire trucks and firemen can only amount to one thing!
A school full of over excited school children!
 
Today we celebrated what is known here in Fujian Province as 119 Celebration Day. 119 is the emergency phone number for FIRE here in Fujian and tomorrow being the 9th Day of the 11th Month is the day all schools celebrate the heroic efforts of not only their country's Firemen but the Firemen from all around the world!
 
Being an Australian I know only too well the heroic efforts and the lives that are put on the line by these guys. They, along with all other emergency crews can not be comprehended by the normal people of our societies. Many of them go beyond their call of dutiy and what any normal person would do when it comes to saving lives endangered by fire and other natural causes.
 
Obviously the Fire Department has a huge calling this week so our school celebrated it a day early.
We had China's CCTV television station come along to capture the afternoon along with many of the cities Leaders.
 
The students were exposed to small fires and the workings of fire extinguishers.
 
The Fire Department each year create many exciting games to help the children have fun whilst learning how to work the extinguishers and hoses that can save not only their own lives but the lives of their families and friends that surround them. Fire drills were held and the students went absolutely crazy!
 
The Fire Crew also had huge smiles on their faces for the entire afternoon.
It really was such a wonderful time.
 
For those reading this, sit back and try to imagine the job these guys have here in China. Over here we are decades behind Australia and America etc. There are no compensation claims and most of OUR rules and regulations don't exist. What our guys go through I would never even try to comprehend. BUT now sit and try to comprehend what the Fire Department Crew in countries such as China must live with.
 
It's a job that attracts a certain type of person no matter what country they are from.
 
No matter what equipment they have or DON'T HAVE, these guys will put their lives on the line to save the lives of people they have never met and probably will never meet again.
 
I for one try to picture myself in their position.
Whether I could climb that ladder or force my way through that burning door?
I guess I'll never know until I don't have the choice!
