Sanya, Hainan, China

Hey Hey and a Big G'Day toya,

For anyone wishing to visit Sanya for a few days and want to see as much as possible of its beauty then this is the perfect ride for you. Simply hire a set of peddles and by dinner time you will have covered most of Sanya Bay, the Serenity Coast, Xiaodonghai Bay and Dadonghai Bay.

If you click on my last ride which was mainly around the actual city and foreshore and include those photos with the photos in this blog then it becomes todays 'This Is Sanya’ ride. I will be visiting Luhuitou Hill Park in several days which will cover both this and my last blog but with 360 degree photos. There is only hill in Sanya with is Luhuitou Hill so the ride is extremely easy yet absolutely beautiful.

Both blogs take you from Egret Park/Crown of Beauty north along the Linchun River to the East Village Area and then north west along Fenghuang Road to the coast. Next is a pleasant ride back south through the Corridor Of Coconuts down to Sanya Harbour for some snacks and some fresh fruit juice at the wonderful Honggang Market.

After a short rest point your front wheel east and cross both Sanya Bridge and Chaojiang Bridge and continue towards the Dadonghai Bay area. At the large intersection take a right and follow the coast along Nanbianhai Road for some great views of both Sanya Harbour and Phoenix Island. Continue following Nanbianhai Road until it turns into Luhutou Road and take the first right which will take you back to the coast.

This area is so peaceful and you will hardly cross paths with anyone except a few locals.

If you are like me and need more snacks there is a little ‘soup/bbq’ place near the primary school in Luhuitou Village which even during Spring Festival felt more like a tiny village on a remote island than a village just around the corner from both Sanya and Dadonghai. After a few treats continue following the little coastal road down to the Serenity Marina area and wind your way back around to Luhuitou Road.

If you want to add in another bay, head east over to Xiaodonghai Bay where MGM Grand are just beginning to clear the foreshore for what will be one hell of an expensive eyesore but for now remains very peaceful and the bay area is worth relaxing in for half an hour or so.

After a sandy walk along the Intercontinental Resort beach wind your way back east and if you have time take in Luhuitou Hill Park and then continue across to Dadonghai Bay. Make your way around to the Pearl Sea View Hotel and the Shanhaitian Hotel whose grounds are open daily to the public as there is a new ‘coastal walkway’ that takes you all the way from the hotel grounds along the left side of the bay.

For those like me who always want a few more peddles continue around Dadonghai Bay to the Mandarin Oriental Resort and then return to the Dadonghai foreshore and end your ride with a delicious seafood dinner and several cold beers at one of the beach bars. I didn’t finish this days ride at one of the beach bars, instead I chose to have one of my most favourite summer treats, a delicious bowl of Xinjiang ‘Cold Noodles’ and later in the evening I introduced Judy to another dish along the same lines in which everything is cooked, then thrown into the freezer until cold and then put into a sidewalk ‘cold buffet’.

Just like the Xinjiang ‘Cold Noodles’ all come with a slightly spicy chilly soy sauce.
An absolute perfect end to a thirty degree day bike ride.
Only several extremely cold beers can top that.

Beers N Noodles toya…..shane
