The Dangjiacun Village Adventure

Hancheng, Shaanxi, China
Hey Hey and a Big G'Day toya,
Foots, who needs them!
Thankfully they come in pairs.
After many days of green liquid infected puss seeping out of my bubbled foot along with rest, a billion anticeptic wipes, a trillion tablets a day and cream, my blisters are dried and well on the mend. I have finished reading another book and each night I’ve hobbled down the street to the night food market for street eats and a few cold beers which I am sure take punches with all of the above;
But it is summer and a few cold beers are the call of the bubbled foot days.
Today I thought I’d be the typical pig headed male and say a big fark you to all of the above and take my foot for a walk. The thought behind it was of course to give it some well needed and deserved air after all it has half done for me. So I headed out for my side order of rice porridge followed by the main corse of bread and then headed to the train station and grabbed the next to see the reason I came here.
DANGJIACUN VILLAGE
Lying in the northeast of Hancheng, Dang Village is a perfectly preserved, 14th Century village which is nestled in a sheltered the location of a beautiful and peaceful valley. Once the home of the Dang and Jia Clans who were successful merchants who ferried timber and other goods across the yellow River. It is about three and a half kilometers east of the Yellow River and is the largest, oldest and best preserved ancient stockade village in Shaanxi.
The village is mainly composed of people with surnames Dang and Jia and about three hundred families with over one thousand four hundred people once made up the community. It was built in 1331 and reached its prosperity period during the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911). During the reign of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) Dangjiacun Village was regarded as 'small Beijing' because of the Siheyuan (Courtyards) which usually take up an area of two hundred and sixty square meters in rectangular shape (only a few are square). They consist of a hall, right and left wing-rooms and porters. The hall was used to worship ancestors, while the wing-rooms and porters served as the living rooms.
Apart from the Siheyuan (Courtyards), many other fancy, unadorned, and zetetic ancient architectures can be viewed and admired in Dang Village which include the Zouma Men, the Three Carvings (brick carvings, stone carvings and wood carvings), the Chastity Arch (an arch erected in honor of a widow) as well as the zenith of the village, the elegant six story Wenxing Confucian Pagoda.
