Hey Hey and a Big G'Day toya,

After several weeks of practice;
(Which also took up much of our class time)
We all put on a smashing Children’s Day performance!

Everyone was up bright and early this morning for a 5:30am breakfast which was followed by the usual suspects being getting the hair done, putting on the face paint and then donning the costume. It has been a long, long, long time since I stood on a stage before a full auditorium and I thought I would have been extremely nervous to the point of;

Where is that damn toilet?
Get me there right now!
But I wasn’t at all.

My students, John Ray (from South Africa who teaches the Grade 7 students) and I put on an animal based song and play. I played Mr Elephant who was a wise elephant who wanted to put on a talent show to see what all of his little friends could do. After the talent show which consisted of my students (dressed in full animal costumes and yes, even I was in a full elephant suit) racing around me saying 'we can sing and fly’, ‘we can climb trees’, ‘we have the sharpest teeth’ etc a hungry lion came along who tried to eat Mr Elephants friends.

I/He saved the day of course!

The lion was then caught and netted by two hunters but they had to leave him because he was too heavy to carry. While they were away finding some friends to help them carry the lion a mouse came along and helped him out of the net using his sharp teeth. The lion then realised how lonely he had been and that he had no friends so he gathered the animals around him and said sorry and that he would like to be friends with them.

John Ray (with guitar) and the students then sang a ‘we are all friends’ based song.
It is midday on Sunday and we all now have three and a half days off!
Beers N Noodles toya…..shane
