So on my last night I figured out what was living in the rafters on my bungalow in Koh Muk. I explained to the manager of my bungalow that I think there a critter living in my bathroom. Of course since his English was limited, and he had no idea what in the world a critter was. So he asked if I could show him the "evidence" (the poop) and figure out what was making it. As soon as I showed it to him, he smiled.” Oh that come from a lizard, big one, no problem, he no bother you “great, he no bother me but he really creep me out, how big? “ I don't know” he smiled.
I could hear him that night, he must have been big since I could hear his tail hitting the side of the walls from my bed, I rigged up a string to keep the bathroom door kept really tightly shut
. Luckily he only liked to come out at night, so I made sure not to drink a lot of water before bed so I could avoid having to go in there. Are you impressed Michael? Lol, yes I can handle roughing it, but could do without sleeping with a giant lizard in the next room.
So the next morning it was off to my next island Ko Libong. I knew very little about this island, expect, besides its rather large size, it was very underdeveloped, and had only three resorts to stay at on the whole island, sounds quaint.
So about 10 of us were waiting for the ferry to pass by out at sea, and at this time they would call ashore (everyone has cell phones) and then a long tail boat would take us to the ferry. That’s how it works, a boat to a boat, when there is no pier. It ended up that I was the only one going to Ko Libong, was that a good or a bad thing? Either way, I was on my own. So once the ferry made a pit stop in Hat Yao, I was to walk about 100 meters to another pier and take another long tail boat to my next island. This was one of those, the boats leave when they have enough people, and it was all local Chow lay people. So here I sat, with a nice group of locals, who welcomed me like I was their own. Eventually a boat had enough people to leave, in the meantime I had the best handmade crepe for only 10 baht (30 cents)
After arriving I hired a motor bike taxi with a side car, perfect for a backpack, and a women with a one week old baby rode with me to other side of the island while I held her umbrella over her while we rode protecting her, and her baby from the sun, ( see , Sarah
.. I’m nice to kids!) Thais do not like to get sun, it makes them look like they are laborers, and they want to be super white like us! And we want to come here and come home nice and tan! Go figure.
My bungalow is cute, and rustic, but with flair! Much better than my last place, This one has hard wood floors, a cool outside attached bathroom, and folding doors that open the whole front of the bungalow to the sea, and same price as the last one with no sink and a huge lizard! Its quiet here and the beaches aren’t as super white, but the place has a very local welcoming feel, and there’s something to like about every island I’ve gone to. The beaches here have so many seashells that I actually have to clear them away from the sand to make a spot for my towel. There was the cutest little gecko hanging out on the pillow next to mine, he wanted to sleep by me! As cute as he was, I placed him back on the wall and put up my mosquito net for the night to protect me for the night. It’s meant just for mosquitoes, but I’m sure it keeps out little geckos too!
The crowd here is a little older, and not a bucket in site. The lights go out at 10, which is fine because I’m usually ready to call it a day by then and back in my bungalow, I know I’m just a crazy girl! So on this Island you are surrounded by lots of nature. So many different species of birds, they make the most beautiful sounds
. On the other island it was the giant lizard keeping me up at night, on this island, it’s the damn monkeys. They sleep during the day, and play all night long in the trees right outside my bungalow, I think they might be worse than the partiers on Koh phi Le with their buckets, because at least they passed out eventually! These monkeys are up at night, until mid morning before they decide to call it a day. They swing and play from tree to tree, and love to yell at each other, they are pretty cute though.
Days here are simple, I spent most of day just collecting shells along the beach, and there are tons here. Yes, I don’t plan on taking most of them home, I will leave them behind for all the next travelers to enjoy. I will only take a favorite few, and leave the rest of the deck of my balcony to add to the pile of favorites that the previous guests had left behind. A few people even made shell wind chimes with ones they collected. Yes, rough days I’ve been having. I actually have no idea whets happening in the world. Without a TV or newspaper in site, you get to be totally exactly where you are, and that’s being in the moment. and it’s a great place to be. I’m getting really good at this kind of life. Tomorrow I head off to a new island, one I’ve been to before, and absolutely love. Tonight I think I may have to break out the earplugs.
Cost for the Day…
Bungalow -$ 25
Transportation- (Ferry ride) -$23 (almost as much as my bungalow!)
Food - $10 (breakfast not included)
Total- $58
It’s hard to always stay in budget when the ferries cost so much sometimes. The next island I’m staying for a while so that will definitely keep down the costs!

Hola chica Bonita, i missed a few days cause honey and I went to LA to hang out with Adela, We stayed at The Westin and had a blast. Just got back. Muk is such a funny name but such a cool place. Libong looked spectacular. Are you ready to publish your book? Lonely Planet should definitely have you on staff as writer AND photographer. Your fotos are as professional as any seasoned photographer. I am sure you are thrilled you are not returning to Chicago. I went to a bridal shower at The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club on Friday. The view was beautiful. We will have to take a hike up to it. It is nestled in the hills of La Jolla and feels like you are overlooking Monte Carlo. Whereever you are on Heart Day I am sending oceans of love with a kiss on every wave xoxo

Mom - That creature in your bathroom would totally scare me! I am glad you tied a string to keep the bathroom door shut! And the gecko on the pillow next to you....did you really pick it up and put it on the wall? Yuck! You are brave! Haha! And those monkeys! They would drive me crazy. At least you got to pick out seashells all day while I am stuck doing homework. :( I miss you!
