A tragedy recently befell the Le household. They have two dogs Tit and Bin, Tit being the mother of Bin and about 11 years old. Hai decided to clean the dogs up for summer so he got some nail clippers a brush and shampoo but things didn't go as planned. While he was getting Bin ready for a bath he started yelping and Tit got frightened and slunk off. Not only slunk off she deserted the house and got out the open gate and disappeared. Searches have revealed no trace.
Added to this was the disappearance of one of Be's prized hens which usually strut around the yard but sometimes fly over the fence and forage elsewhere, When Be returned from his short holiday in Dalat he found one of his prize doves dead in a cage and his hen missing. I queried him about the dog as they were saying maybe someone stole it to eat and I thought it would be too old to eat but Be said , no they taste better when they're older.
The Vietnamese have a very strange attitude to animals and wildlife in particular. A few nights ago there was a beautiful frog on the kitchen window looking in, I was admiring it when Hai got a broom and mangled it. I have also seen him kill gecko's in the house, and the kids seem to have a deathly fear of any flying or crawling insects.
I have included pictures of a trip over the river to a fishing port and many of the beautiful flowers one sees one ones travels. Mainly Bouganvillea I believe and some Hibiscus. They all thrive here as you can imagine.
