Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
Sunday exhausted me and today I was still in recovery mode. First a beautiful breakfast cooked by Deday the houseboy, mango and watermelon then an omelette on toast with some strong local coffee. Deday is a Hindu and like all the Hindu's here is preparing for the big festival on Wednesday. Its called Hari Raya Galungan and celebrates the triumph of dharma over adharma. Its also a celebration of departed ancestors returning to earth for a while. It's the big Hindu festival of the year and all I talk to say go into Ubud on Wednesday when they have a big procession to the temple. I think the Hindu's outnumber the Muslims from what I have seen. Two taxi drivers today, a coffee shop and a masseur all Hindu. Not sure about Japanese lady I bought a Bento box from, which by the way was disappointing. Half the food was warm the other half cold. Maybe I'm nitpicking but i think all food should be either hot or cold not halfway. I ate some for lunch and put the remainder in the fridge and had it for dinner and cold it was good.
Went into Ubud to the Bintang supermarket to get supplies then walked (downhill) for quite a way to a coffee shop . The people here are so friendly, the guys on a building site stopped work to have a chat. They had hacked out half a hillside by hand and were getting the foundations ready to pour the concrete.
I have come to the conclusion that Ubud is quite beautiful and I can see why people want to live here. I met a guy from London today who has moved here, about 35 and running his business from here.
Got a cab back to the Japanese Warung and made a deal with Marde a driver to take me for a ride on Friday. The intervening days are out as nobody will be working because of the festival.
Came home and sleep wonderful sleep then up and out to the Round House cafe for a Margarita then over the road for a Balinese massage (no Boom boom Paul) by Muerny (phonetic) for $8, then home for swim and more sleep.

Bento box for dinner with a G and T and the cable tv on. Believe me there's 100 channels and nothing on. I think Gil Scott Heron said that.
