Hội An, Quang Nam Province, Vietnam
Very quiet days for me as it is hot again. When I was back in Daylesford freezing my arse off outside the coffee shop all I could think of was warm weather. Well, be careful what you wish for as I got it. What a change from 4 degrees in the Fud to 34 and 80% humidity here. Yesterday was a bit of  a nothing day, Na and Nhi took Race to the doctor in Da Nang as he had a lesion of some sort on his arm. Doctor Pitt diagnosed ringworm but I couldn't get a definitive response from Nhi when they came back but she got some sort of cream to put on it. Talking to Gunther this morning and he said he had the same sort of thing, a round raised irritated spot on his arm but it went away. Ringworm in Oz is very rare these days, I think, and is apparently only tinea in a different form and is easiy treatable but it is also very contagious so I will be watching for any outbreak amongst us.
Nick and I had promised to take the girls to the Korean place, so called, though Nhi says it is not really Korean. It happened that they had gone to a real Korean place in Da Nang that day and wanted to go and try Hue food at another place but I misunderstood and we ended up at the Korean. It was very hot and humid and so was the food and they have very small seats, as Nick says the smaller the seat the cheaper the price and it's true, we had four or five courses for about 230,000 roughly $12.
The night before Hai Nick and I went to Mien Ga which is simply chicken soup with Mien noodles which are very spidery thin noodles and on the way home I almost got cleaned up on three occasions by guys on unlit scooters, three of them riding abreast all without lights and all talking to each other and slowing down in front of me, no brakelights no headlights. It inspired me to give My Le a list of my family contacts in case I end up in hospital.
You can see from the photos that Mia Coffee has been rebuilt from the ground up as a two storey building now, the coffee is even better than I remember it and it's more open and airy as well as having a balcony with admittedly not such a good view as it is clogged with landline wiring festooned from pole to pole.
When I returned from a ride a few days ago I complained to My Le that the bike seat was too hard, it's an old bike and the padding is not resilient any more. She went out and pressed it and came back and said " bike seat ok it's just you are too heavy".
Today we rode to Cam Thanh resort again to bring back a coffee for Tham whose husband Be works there. Any excuse for an excursion so we took off and rode through the back lanes in the water coconut forest, nice windy concrete tracks through there. The resort is still not open hence my "deserted village" photo s and the coffee is worth the trip. They blend the coffee ice and milk in a machine and its like a smoothie.
