Richmond's to Richmond

Richmond, Queensland, Australia

It's a long and straight road from Hughenden to Richmond. The town sits like an oasis on a small rise beside Lake Fred Tritton. The Main Street is long and has a wide garden down the center, can't get lost in Richmond.

First stop was the final of our Dinosaur passes to see some amazing, and huge, ancient sea creatures found here. A phone call to a mate, Ray Stevens, revealed that the first and most complete fossil was found on his family property about 40klm from town. He also said that another mate from the Gold Coast, Owen Yong Gee, also came from here and look out for the old family store in town.

The Museum was truly excellent, and well patronised. We spent a few hours looking at the displays and in the theatre. Some of these beasties are huge! Once again it is a working laboratory with many fossils awaiting release.

No visit is complete without a beer at the local, so we complied. Then we took some lunch down to the lake to enjoy the serenity....ah!

Returning home we stopped for an old couple in a motor home who had run out of fuel about 12klm from Hughenden. The silly bugger went through Richmond and estimated that he'd make it to Hughenden with 3 litres to spare.....fool! We drove him to a fuel station, but because the Stamford races were on there was no-one to help him, yep, we drove him back out, filled up his tank from a can and started the engine. You've just gotta wonder about some people!
