Jericho on the Jordan

Jericho, Queensland, Australia

Not pulling your leg, there is a town called Jericho a few hours drive west of Emerald, and it is on the banks of the Jordan Creek.

The drive was easy, a very good and mainly straight road from Emerald with the Drummond Range providing a pleasant distraction. We stopped briefly at Hannams Gap lookout and felt that this in some way signified the beginning of the outback as from here we would drop somewhat to flat plains for a long time.

Jericho, a small community sitting next to a billabong of the Jericho Creek seemed like the perfect spot to complete our arduous 2 hour journey (plus lunch break). A visit to the Information Centre told us that camping at the billabong was free, and the campsite provided basic facilities as well.

A 500mt drive and we had a great drive-thru (no need to unhitch the van) campsite right on the banks of a very pretty waterhole. Yes, campfires were permitted, so after setting up we went hunting and gathering for wood. We'll let the photos tell the rest! It was quiet, the night full of stars and a cold morning till the sun gained height!

Our usual 10am start towards Longreach.
