Emerald, Queensland, Australia
15th  – 16th June

High Ground Homestay.

About 20klm SW of Emerald is Lake Maraboon incorporating Fairbairn Dam. The lake is
Queensland's 2nd largest and was formed to provide irrigation for
the large agricultural industry, particularly cotton and citrus. About 6klm
from the dam is a small property fronting a stream and providing camping spots
for caravans and campers. The property is not that pretty in itself, but it does provide plenty of room as you can pretty well choose where you will set camp.

Sunset drinks on the flowing stream was rather nice, with plenty of birdlife and very pleasant
surrounds, pretty much to ourselves. Both nights a campfire and a star filled night provides the entertainment….nothing like melting the boots as your chin drops to your chest!

We spent two nights here as we were to meet Nick in Emerald on the 17th. We
hadn’t seen him for several months since he headed up to the Gulf of
Carpentaria, and now we would catch up for one night as our paths cross!
