Hughenden, Queensland, Australia
10am start, is this getting boring? We were told that there is a country Picinic Races being held at Stamford, halfway from Winton to Hughenden. This has to be worth a look! The road north is blacktop, but it get's pretty narrow in sections. It is 214klm to Hughenden geez, seems so long, so Stamford for a few days R&R seemed reasonable.

The town of Stamford is missable, except on it's Race Day of which they have had 114 of them! We called in and drove a very dusty kilometre into the track only to find that they had graded the grass off the camping area, leaving about 10 acres of powdery dust. Also, the wind was blowing clouds of dust from the racetrack. The whole thing looked dismal and since we were there 2 days early we opted to drive on, but, it is on our to-do list!

Hugenden was surprisingly large and well serviced. We booked into the caravan park after looking at the free-camp at the Showgrounds which was a dust-bowl. Then to the Info Centre which also is the Dinosaur Museum entrance. The display, though static, was well put together and enjoyable. Well worth the visit. We had a milkshake at FJ Holden Cafe which is really well done.

Our plan was to leave the van in Hughenden tomorrow and do the 230klm round trip to Richmond to complete the Dinosaur Trail
