Another easy 2 hour drive sees us in Charleville, the commercial centre of the SW. We needed a wash day of both clothes and the van and Patrol, so we opted for the Cobb & Co Caravan Park where we scored a site in the far corner under the shelter of a large gumtree.
Charleville is home to the Cosmos Centre where they have 2 sessions each evening stargazing through large computer operated optical telescopes. We booked for the 9pm session giving us time for dinner at the RSL, a Chicken Schnitzel the size of a Pelican, and several beverages to assist the eye-focus! At the RSL we met some friends from Yeppoon, Phil and Pauline. Phil had been a vet in the SW for years and this was the third occasion we have met up with them as our paths zig-zagged across each other.
Back to the Cosmos and after a brief tutorial we looked at a small portion of the sliver of the moon, which was so bright it left one eye blinded for about 10 minutes. We looked at stars, planet, constellations and other galaxies. A good night!
Next day was taken up with odd jobs, writing the travel blog and some shopping!

How fast do you drive -I think\it is more 3 hours from Quilpie to Charleville-The reason I mentioned voting is that normally Birdsville would only have about 60 people voting on a normal but to have it on their race day threw a spanner in their works-had to fly in staff for the friday and saturday buzzc

The vote in Birdsville was really well organised and had pre-polling from the Tuesday before the election. Many had applied for Postal Votes which kept the local postmaster pretty busy. I voted on the Thursday and walked straight in, but I heard that on the Saturday it was fairly chaotic.
Quilpe to Charleville is 208klm Buzz! Now I know you are older than me, but I didn't realise that your driving was so slow!
