Mary River Roadhouse

The morning is still overcast, though rain does not threaten yet as we depart Edith Falls and head north to Pine Creek where we will leave the main highway and head NE to Kakadu NP. Pine Creek is a very pleasant small township, sort of a gateway to the region. Here we stop for fuel and a couple of supplies and go to the XXXXX Resort and enjoy coffee and cake whilst sitting in a lounge area, luxury! We also have Telstra here so we make some calls home and catch up on news, emails and Facebook.

Our destination is right on the entrance to Kakadu, the Mary River Roadhouse. We all decide on a stop here not because of it's beauty, gorges, riverviews or walks….because it has none of those. It does have power and water which we use to do laundry and put the spare batteries on charge, a service stop only!

We are told by the roadhouse owner that our next intended destination, Gumlom Falls, was evacuated last night due to the rain. The Roadhouse camp was full! At about 2:30pm Col, John and Roscoe decide to do a reconnoiter drive into Gumlom to see if the roads and the campsite are accessible! Yes they are! More on Gumlom Falls to follow!
