Once we got off the plane we filed up an escalator with the other 200+ people into a lobby area where we were told we couldn't walk to the Immigration Hall but had to wait for a shuttle bus. We probably only waited about 10/15 minutes but after a long days travel it seemed longer!
Worse was to come though as there must have been several flights arriving at the same time and it took about an hour to get through Immigration! Good news however is that the luggage was on the belt by the time we got there.
Out the doors we ordered an Uber and walked the few minutes to the Uber pick up area which is well marked
so easy to find. There was a lot of people there waiting but as our driver just happened to have dropped someone off at the airport we jumped straight in with no waiting! Our driver was Jacob and he was very friendly and helpful and we chatted the whole half hour from the airport to our Hotel.
Once at the Coconut Waikiki Hotel we found the room wasn't ready to go, not surprising as it was only about 11.30, so we dropped the bags and headed off in search of food!
The first likely place we saw was the Cheesecake factory and being so tired, hot and sweaty we weren't in the mood for looking any further.
We have been into a Cheesecake factory before and they have an extensive menu so we had a lovely lunch, margarita for me and Angry Orchard Cider for Rodd and some delicious Caramel, Chocolate Cheesecake for dessert .... I mean you can't go there without having cheesecake, right?!
It was 1.30 by the time we got back to the Hotel and were able to check in. First thing for me was a shower and even though we had decided not to sleep but instead maybe go and float around the pool for awhile we somehow both managed to drift off and slept for 2 or 3 hours!
Around 5 we thought we should go out for awhile so we headed out with Hard Rock as our first destination. We sat up at the bar and had 1 drink each with a Brushetta to share. Rodd of course started chatting to the girl serving us and after hearing servers clapping and singing Happy Birthday to various patrons mentioned our dilemma about it being my birthday at home but not here .... after our drinks once we'd asked for the bill she turns up with a glass of icecream with cream and sprinkles and a candle in it too. She said "I can't let you leave without some celebration"! I'm not really an Icecream person but it would have been rude not to eat it.
We wandered around the streets a bit, through Outrigger Resort to see if we could get to the waterfront and just general mindless walking elsewhere until we saw a spot that looked nice for dinner. We had a nice meal and a couple of drinks perched up at the bar but we're both fading and the travel day is catching up.
On the way bac to the Hotel we stopped at the ABC to buy some Baileys then back 'Home' for one quick drink on the balcony and we were in bed by 10.
