Everything was going well. We were about to win the first Old Farts Race between Paihia (New Zealand) and Raivavae (Australes Island). A first edition in which we were the only participants...but bad luck...last night our mast broke. Strong winds, bad sea...but we were lucky: nobody was hurt, and we managed to cut loose the mast (260 kg) the newly repaired boom and all our sails...now the ship looks like and empty tennis court. But thanks to the knowledge of Thomas we managed to set up 2 makeshift sails and we are now cruising at an amazing speed of 1 knot (1 miles per hour), towards Rarotonga Island the main centre of the Cook Islands, about 180 miles away. We hope the wind will turn in the next 48 hours then we can get close faster and finish with the motor. Once there we will look at our options.
Oh well, that's life I suppose.
Will keep you posted.
Is this the end, my friend?

The sea thanks you for your many donations....all replaceable. Relieved to hear that Te Kaihau is keeping afloat and going strong with 2 capable persons at the helm. Wishing you the very best from landlocked Mae Sot!
