We arrived safely. Despite strong winds and rough sea with 6 m swells..Mr Solo the local policeman was waiting for us as well as Keith, an Australian who lives here and repair boats. "Do you need a new mast?" he said...we attached Te Kaihau to an old wreck that belongs to him. "I don't want any scratch on my boat" he joked. His boat called Zangano has a tragic story. The previous owner, also an Australian was sailing with his wife somewhere in the Pacific and came back without her. He said she fell off the boat, but few people believed him. He was kept by the police in Rarotonga for 2 months and then they let him go. He sailed and then try to sink his boat and called for help...this time they send him back to Australia and Keith kept the wreck...he is nice and will help us to find a mast so that we can continue our route to Tahiti. In the meantime we are stuck here. It must have been a nice place when discovered by Cook but now it is flooded with tourists from US, Australia and New Zealand. Expensive place as a result. Famous for the black pearls. Will try to get the work done in a week or so and then go.
Thank you for all your messages of support!
