Sagrada Familia and Boqueria Market

Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands
Saturday in Barcelona. After breakfast at the hotel, I had to get a cap – too much sun yesterday. Since Barcelona won the recent world soccer championship, a cap was easy to
find .

We got on the tour bus again – particularly so we could get a better look at Sagrada Familia. Is the focal point in the picture I downloaded as the cover photo for this blog. It is a large Roman Catholic church designed by Antoni Gaudí who designed many buildings in Barcelona. Construction of the church began in 1882 and is expected to be completed in the next ten years. Yes,you read that correctly – 145 years. If you want to know more -

Then we went to the Boqueria market – WOW. It is a large market with no end of fresh food – fruits vegetables, fish, and meats. You can see by the photos that we enjoyed the Iberian hamone. You can see hams supported in fixtures ready for slicing. Top end hamone sold for 122 Euros per kilogram. That's about $60/lb. The variety of food was enormous. We also bought
a cup (2 Euros) of olive and tasted quite a variety that we had never experienced.

Planning simple supper tonight – sandwich and wine – and looking forward to tomorrow..
