Last yesterday we returned to our cabin to the news that there had been several cases of gastro on the ship and that they would be taking the necessary precautions to minimise the spread of it.

This has meant that passengers aren't allowed to handle any communal utensils or the bread at dinner. Instead we are served everything by members of the staff. It’s almost silver service.

With the illness, people’s non attendance at various events is being noted. I made the mistake of deciding to watch a movie in the cabin instead of attending afternoon trivia. Mum reported that several people questioned my whereabouts and enquired about my health. It would appear that her explanation that I was just watching a movie and not visiting the porcelain temple was met with mistrust. I don’t really blame them, as I am treating the non attendance of others with the same mistrust.

Needless to say we are both making an effort to be seen in public, to be eating an appropriate amount of food and to be looking bright and chirpy.

With the amount of hand sanitising going on, we may need to restock in Dubai.
