Super Moon

At Sea, International
Today we continue our South Westerly course across the South Pacific. Being another of our many sea days, it was again a case of doing the usual activities, except that due to Mum still feeling under the weather, I did Zumba and roamed the ship alone.

As she had only been out of action for a day or so, the questions I fielded about her health were relatively mundane – thankfully.

In the afternoon, with a banana/chocolate mock tail in hand, I went along to a lecture of Japan. It was billed as ‘Life in today’s Japan, the contrast between then and now’. I think the billing was a little off, as the vast majority of the lecture was about ‘life today’. It was interesting, but not what I was expecting. That said, if I ever choose to visit, I have a much better idea of transport options and expected costs.

Mum had perked up before dinner and had decided to check out the karaoke. I opted to head outside to see just how super the supposed super moon actually was. While smaller than expected it was still quite large and did a good job of lighting up the surrounding ocean.

Fun fact:
The super moon occurs when the Earth and Moon are closest to each other. Tonight’s moon was about 20% closer than normal, this making the moon appear 10-15% than normal.
