Um, the ship has stopped

At Sea, International
After seeing land for the first time in a while yesterday, we settled back into the usual sea day activities.

With Mum out of the action, I braved Zumba alone. Midway through the class, the Captain came over the loud speakers and let us all know that they were experiencing some electrical issues with one of the propellers.

While I hadn’t noticed the ship slowing down, it would appear that due to the loss of power, we had slowed to a measly 5 knots. The crew were working on finding the problem and looking to fix it, however there was no time frame for the fix.

Eventually the electrical fault was found and after slowly bringing there two propellers up to speed, we were back on track and making our way across the Pacific.

In preparation for our visit to Pitcairn Island in a couple of days, one of the on board lectures today was on the Mutiny on the Bounty, who was involved and some of the background. It was an interesting take on the reasoning behind the mutiny, what happened to the various participants and the community that resulted from the violence that accompanied the mutiny.

Fun fact:
The world’s largest cruise ships are the sister ships MS Oasis of the Seas and MS Allure of the Seas. The size of these vessels is simply mind-boggling: Each ship is nearly four football fields long, 16 decks high and can carry over 6,000 passengers.
