In an attempt to fight the invertible cold snap that was on its way, the middle part of the day was watching Forest Gump, while sitting outside and wrapped up in towels. I, like a couple of other passengers are refusing to let the weather put a dampener on the outdoor movie watching. The plan worked well when there was no wind and the sunshine kind of shone through the clouds, however when ever the breeze picked up or it clouded over, the warmth offered by two beach towels sadly just wasn't enough.
There was however one activity that outshone the showing Forest Gump
. It was an event so big; that I’m sure people delayed their afternoon tea to see it. Camera batteries were charged, shirts ironed and hair was 'done’. The theatre was so full, it was standing room only.
I speak of the final performance of the Dawn Princess Choir.
The preceding weeks of practice had all lead up to this 30 minute show. The lunches they missed to practice have only fuelled their hunger to sing and not even a rocking ship wasn’t going to stop them (the weather was a little rough so they didn’t even have to try swaying, they just did).
Highlights of the performance included an emotional rendition of ‘I will never leave you’, the waving of serviettes ‘borrowed’ from the food and beverage people and audience participation in the singing of ‘We’ll meet again’.
The evening entertainment was a comedy impressionist – Danny McMaster. He was billed as ‘a man of many talents and one of the world’s great comedy impressionists’. I’m not sure I would go ‘world’s greatest’, but he was very good and very entertaining.
He had the audience in stitches with his impression of Bill Crosby trying to explain Cricket (which is an old joke but well done), his Billy Connolly impression was superb (it was as if Billy had stowed away on the ship) and his impression of Sly Stallone singing Delilah, while unintelligible was funny.
Fun fact:
Due to foil shortages in WW2, the production of Hershey's Kisses was stopped.
The final performance… no more encores
