Due to another culinary demonstration, our morning Zumba was curtailed into a 30 minute class that was on significantly earlier that usual.
Over the course of the day, Mum went to a lecture on telescopes and binoculars and I went to a lecture on the future of Australia's population
.
Our evening was interesting. We had arranged with our table mates and some of their friends to have dinner at the pizzeria. Sounds pretty normal, however, it had been agreed that we would all attend in costume.
After some consideration and a look at what clothes/accessories we had, we decided that Mum would go as a lounge singer complete with diamonds and a feather boa and I would go as a pirate complete with pirate duck and fight scars.
In addition to us, on the table there was a Mexican, a Sheik, a Rastafarian, a Irish woman, a belly dancer and a women in island attire. The reaction we received from the other passengers was hilarious and generally split in two – those who tutted and those who you could see wished that they could have joined us.
A great evening was had by all. The theme songs for each outfit were sung, jokes were told, and cutlasses were stolen and used to cut pizza by the wait staff
.
At about 11pm, it was time for the balloon drop and streamer throw. In an exciting turn of events, I was dragged down to the dance floor by our Head Waiter and managed to get a lovely spot under the balloons as they dropped. Now this all sounds like great fun, until you realise that some people want to keep the balloons bouncing around in the air while other people want to burst them with sharp little objects. I am the former (i.e. a bouncer) who just happened to be surrounded by bursters. I’m glad that I survived with no stab wounds.
After hanging around for a little while, it was time for this little pirate to head to bed.
Fun fact:
Vikings used to christen their ships using human sacrifice, nowadays only a bottle of champagne is sacrificed.
