Palatupana, Southern Province, Sri Lanka
A very early start this morning, we were leaving the resort at 5-30am! It was still completely dark and so it was a task to find the reception by torch light!
The windy road out of the resort was negotiated with mishap, no elephants or crocs barring the route . There was little traffic at first but that changed as it got light. There seemed to be a lot of people out this morning all dressed in white; Abey explained that they were all off to the Buddhist temple and when we passed one there was a lot of people queueing to go inside.having met our jeep driver we were soon clambered aboard and off to the Bundala National Park and wetland. We were there mainly to see birds - storks, spoon bills, herons, cormorants and any thing else that happened to drop by. We saw lots of all of these and some king fishers, blue tailed bee eaters and lots of peacocks, one proudly displaying his beautiful tail, but there were no flamingos which was quite sad. The routes were bumpy and some of the 'roads' were through water but it was an interesting, if early morning. Later this afternoon we get to go out again to look for animals!!
