The Great Ocean Road: Day 2

Port Fairy, Victoria, Australia
Apollo Bay to Port Fairy.
Another great day of spectacular scenery in prospect as we set off on the second day of our road trip .
It's not too long before our first stop Mait's Rest Rainforest walk. Named after Maitland Bryan the first forestry officer of the area. Main would Rest his horse somewhere here about on his regular patrol from Apollo Bay to Hordenvale.
The walk is amazing some many beautiful trees in so many different shapes and sizes making living sculpture to be enjoyed by anyone passing through.
On the road to Otway lighthouse and we are on the lookout for koalas, there are usually some in the trees near here. Lots of cars parked badly at the side of the road could only mean koalas. We just had to go and look. What amazing little animals they are, so sweet and sleepy looking hanging like furry Pom Poms.
Lots of pickies later and it's off to Otway lighthouse. The place is as friendly as it was last time, expensive to visit the lighthouse and along walk and only a glimpse otherwise. Took the walk any way; weren't too thrilled with the sign warning about snakes in the area but we didn't see any!
Driving back down from the lighthouse, hardly any cars about and just on the lower branch of a tree was an amazing koala, we were able to get really close and get some pics before more people arrived . He was quite happy to let us take photos for ages as there were few people about, as more of a crowd gathered he scampered off up a tree. It was great to have him almost to our selves for a little while!
The major stopping Point on the route this afternoon was the Twelve Apostles rock formations in the Port Campbell National Park. Amazing stacks and arches that have been carved out of the cliff face as wave and weather action wares it away. Geography in action folks!!
Onward and still we pass beautiful beaches and rocky coastline until we reach our objective the town of Port Fairy and especially our home for tonight 54 on Bank.
Another unusual accommodation these boutique hotels are all very different. This one is well equipped with kitchen, sitting room area and bedroom. We still went out for a Thai meal though, which was really great.
