Exploring Margaret River.

Busselton, Western Australia, Australia
Time to venture back south this morning to sample the delights of Margaret River.
First stop the little town of Cowaramup or as it is to the locals 'Cow town' because of its connections to dairy and beef farming for generations . Living up to its name the town has black and white Freshia cows made from fibreglass outside shops, on open spaces and decorating buildings. They are great fun and look very attractive. The idea for the bovine display came from the 2010 CowParade that took place in over 50 countries in the world and included Margaret River. Local sponsor paid for these cows and local volunteers painted them and placed them around the town. The result is a very attractive display which encourages tourists to stop for a while and join in the 'hunt the cow' games.
Suitable refreshed with flatwhites from the 'Mad cow ' cafe we were ready to continue our journey to the town of Margaret River. This is quite an unusual town, quite quirky in a hippy/ surfy sort of way. We had a good wander about and enjoyed a spot of retail therapy,
Leaving the town we found a picnic spots with some rather unusual 'entertainment'; we were joined by a rather large police vehicle and quite a lot of police personell setting up a 'booze trap' for drink drivers visiting the wineries of Margaret River. It was just like a police drama on TV!! Several people seemed to fall victim to the 'sting'!
Passed part of the afternoon on a tasting expedition, chocolate and nougat, no wine for us today!! Sadly as this area is so big and the companies so far apart we felt it was not as good as our experience at Swan River. We did see some kangaroos on the way home though so that made up for the lack of tastings, especially for Laurie, Mikey and I!!
