West End, Western Australia, Australia
Today is our last sight seeing day of this trip, tomorrow we move on closer to the airport and to handing over our lovely van.
We took the bus into the 'city' to give Mikey a day off driving, the trip was only to be around eight minutes . Bus was on time and we were soon in the centre right out side one of the shopping centres to be precise. Ambling through we soon found some of the older buildings in the town, which were quite stylish if rather strange in their merchandise. We chatted to the owner of a souvenir shop who had been in business there over thirty years, we could believe that - Mike commented most of the stock had too! But so sweet.
Finding the seafront it was time for morning tea and a yummy vanilla slice for me and a melting moment for Mikey! Both quite delicious as we decided to share. With a sea view too it was especially good.
The town beach was quite pleasant, clean golden sand and the sea was a lovely turquoise colour but with rather rough waves, they made a real booming noise as they hit the beach. It didn't seen to deter the swimmers who seemed to be having a good time. The other interesting thing about the beach was they had rather unusual toilet facilities, at least from the outside, they were shaped and decorated just like Rubik's cubes!! They seemed to match the other art works around the street and along the front.
The harbour area was our next stop, it has been modernised and has lots of rather expensive boats anchored there. The area around has been developed with business properties and expensive accommodations. Obviously there is the hope that this will develop into an important business centre, there is quite an active port. We found a very nice restaurant for our last Aussie lunch with views over the harbour and the sea, the place were all these wealthy business types will eat and wine and dine clients perhaps. It was very pleasant and quite popular.
The retail therapy was none existent today for although there were two shopping centres they were rather disappointing, the largest store in each being a supermarket!!
Not a lot to trouble the tourist.
