Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo, Kanto, Japan
No Jet Lag!!!(Take note Kim and Chris). Slept for about an hour on the plane yesterday, and then stayed up until 23:30 local time last night, went to bed, and woke up at 07:00 local time this morning fully refreshed changed over in time zones.

Wednesday we woke up to a beautiful, sunny day with the temperature about 14C with a light, warm breeze. (No rain, yeah!)

Our room comes with the regular amenities, like a coffee maker (more coffee in the packages here translating into stronger coffee). However, we also have a hot water dispenser. This is great for tea as there is always hot water ready to go! After morning tea, coffee and delicious muffins from the pastry shop downstairs, we were ready to go!

Today's destination: Tokyo Disneyland!! The Kingdom of Dreams and Magic!!

Interesting tidbit: Tokyo Disney Resort (which consists of two theme parks, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea (tomorrow's destination), was the first Disney resort to open outside the US. Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea are the third and fourth most visited theme parks in the world after Disney World in Orlando and Disneyland in Annaheim. Tokyo Disney Resort is also notable as it is not owned by Disney, but by the Oriental Land Company.

We took the monorail from our hotel and arrived at Tokyo Disneyland about 9 a.m., an hour after opening. The monorail cars were totally "Disney" as the windows and the handrails were in the shape of "Mickey". We purchased a two day Disney Resort pass for 10,000 Yen each (about $120 CDN), which is all access for the rides, attractions and shows.

We spent 9 wonderful hours in Disneyland, checking out some of the rides(except for the really intense ones and ones for the younger set), attractions, shopping (lots of retail shops!), walked the entire grounds (some parts twice!), took many, many pictures and tried some food. We were also lucky to catch the parade with many of the Disney characters, lots of dancers, brightly dressed cast members and some very beautiful floats. It is a very clean, spacious park, so our wait times were minimal and paths were not overcrowded. Whoo Hoo!

Speaking of food, for lunch today, I tried a shrimp cutlet sandwich, which was very delicious. There were numerous food carts with ice cream, drinks, churros, spring rolls, Mickey pizza and popcorn throughout the park. We didn't try the curry or soy sauce popcorn, we wimped out and had the caramel variety. There didn't seem to be any restraint in people shopping while we were there (what recession?!?) There were lots of people were wearing Disney character "ears" and clothing, quite a few pint sized princesses (dressed to the 9s) looking very, very cute, and what seemed to be every family with a souvenir Disney popcorn bucket!

Once back at the hotel we checked out some of our surroundings. From our room, overlooking Tokyo Bay, we can see the well kept grounds behind the hotel, the mini golf course, what looks like the outdoor pool(closed to due it being not quite warm enough)  and chapel. We browsed through some of the shops on the promenade and did some homework as to which restaurant we will check out later tonight. We declared it happy hour in our room (which is where we are writing this). We are trying out some individual canned cocktails and some seaweed flavoured potato chips. Pretty good!

We have decided to stay in our room tonight, kick back, have some cocktails and snacks and then get ready for Tokyo DisneySea and to make our way into Tokyo tomorrow!
