Hello everyone - its Eve, I'll be filling in for Greg today. After being awake 17 hours, he packed it in and is now snoring! So I will lead you through our day and when Greg wakes up he can fill in any blanks and slot in today's pictures - I think we got some very cool ones!
We were up far too early this morning (5 a.m.), but were greeted by another beautiful day. The view over Tokyo Bay was a little foggy, but we were still able to see several ships and boats in the bay. By mid afternoon Greg and I agreed today was warmer than yesterday, about 20C, we guesstimate.
We were starved, so I persuaded Greg to check out the hotel breakfast buffet - I assured him it wouldn't be like the regular North American breakfast buffets. We were greeted with a multi-stationed, huge variety breakfast with the usual North American breakfast items, Asian breakfast selections, fruit, cheese and salad station, juice and yogurt station, a large assortment of breads and a cool Kids station. It was hard to choose but I can tell you one of our favourite items was the poached salmon. The fresh fruits and juices were also given the proper attention!
We took our time this morning to sort through our new and old items, packing up for our move later today to Tokyo City. We checked out of the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay before we left for DisneySea today, then returned to pick up our luggage before heading off to Tokyo City.
Its been an ongoing consciousness on this trip to travel light. We both came to Japan with one large suitcase (with another piece inside, and still ample room) and one small carry-on (going with my motto of not taking more than I can realistically carry on my own). After leaving the Tokyo Disney Resort, space is filling up quickly. Too many purchase options there the last two days! Some items surprised me by being reasonably priced, while others surprised me by how very over priced I thought they were, however regardless, we did see some very unique items and also what seems to be every variety of candies and cookies.
After seeing the immense line up for the opening gate at Tokyo DisneySea yesterday while we were on the Disney Monorail, we purposely timed our arrival for after the opening time of 10 a.m. We just caught the tail end of the rush to get in.
The Disney folks all over the park seem to be experts at moving people along quickly and efficiently, all while being extremely polite and gracious (national traits!)
Tokyo DisneySea (and Japan) is first a time visit for both Greg or I. (He's been to the US Disney Resorts, but not me.) That's always fun because many of the places we go, at least one of us has been there before. As Tokyo Disneyland revolves around Cinderella's castle, Tokyo DisneySea revolves around Mount Prometheus, an artificial volcano that "erupts" intermittently. We spent the day checking out its 7 theme "ports of call". The Indiana Jones attraction was familiar to Greg, but the "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"
and the "Journey to the Center of the Earth" were new to both of us. We had no information on any of the attractions before we entered, so the "Journey" one was a bit of a surprise to me (non-intense ride girl that I am) as all of a sudden we were plunging out of the face of the volcano, fortunately (for me) it wasn't too far a drop!(it was a lot of fun, this is Greg now).
We did catch one of the Disney shows - The Legend of Mythica, which was staged in the "Mediterranean Harbour" between Mount Prometheus and the Italian Piazza just inside the entrance. It was awesome; there were 10 huge (evolving)water floats (complete with dancing water, fire breathing dragons, daytime fireworks, twirling aerial acrobats and of course the Disney characters) and about 13 zipping seadoos in disguise as dragons and sea serpents. I think my favourite part was the seadoos pulling multi coloured flags over the waters and weaving through the floats. Weird to describe, but absolutely awesome to see!
We tried an Italian restaurant for something to eat before finishing our Disney shopping and heading back to the hotel.
We then took the JR Rail Line into Tokyo and checked into our hotel of the next five days, the Dai Ichi Hotel Tokyo, and went out to McDonalds for a bit to eat. Eve had her regular quarter pounder with cheese and I had a Teri Yaki Mcburger and then as Eve had said I fell asleep.
One last note, everything we have experienced, so far(and I have no doubt it will continue), has been about service. Everyone, at the hotels, at Disney, on the JR Rail Line, or even just out on the street, has been overly friendly and helpful. Even an American from Miami, working at DisneySea, said the service at these Disney Parks is far and above superior to the two parks in the US.
