Breakfast at the Gateway Lodge's very nice Blas restaurant in Donegal to start Canada Day in Ireland. Greg decided to try poached duck eggs with duck compote & tomato chutney.....Eve, the more traditional spinach eggs Benedict. Both were very good. All set for the day!
Now, on the road again! We are now travelling the "Wild Atlantic Way"! With a short stop in Sligo, we motored all the way to Galway today, total about 200 kms away, and lots of sheep. We have decided to stay here 2 nights.
We arrived in Galway just after 2pm and were able to check into St. Jude's B & B, a few blocks from downtown. A quaint B & B. We got room 1A with the ocean view, which we thought would be on the ground floor but it turned out to be on the top floor! Good thing we had pared down our luggage a few days ago!
We headed out to look around Galway. We found a bustling city by the water, population about 80,000. The folks at the Ireland Tourism office downtown were very helpful.
After a light lunch, we wandered through the downtown, checked out the "Spanish Arch" and the waterfront before stumbling onto the Latin Quarter. This area was wonderful with blocks & blocks of shops, bars & restaurants on a pedestrian mall. There were lots of buskers who were all quite enjoyable. Many people were drinking, eating & socializing on the various establishments.

We decided on Sonny Molloy's Whiskey Bar & Front Door restaurant for supper. Tonight we went with BBQ ribs & Caesar salad. Greg was more focused on the dessert special, warm bread & butter pudding with Toffee sauce & honeycomb ice cream, but unfortunately found out they were sold out.....he was subsequently consoled by Sticky Toffee Pudding with Carmel ice cream.
Now we definitely needed the walk back to St. Jude's B & B.
Time to kick back & gear up & rest up for the one 'bus' tour we signed up for on this trip!
Happy Canada Day & Go Riders!

Riders won, but after a 2 & 1/4 rain delay! And you think it rains in Ireland - that was a DOWNPOUR.

Yes - the rain was coming down horizontally. Everything looks great in Regina now though. Needed that rain!
